On Tuesday, October 8th, a large group of Pastors and community leaders representing various denominations gathered at the Bridgeport Conference Center for the official start for planning the Mountain State Celebration with Will Graham to be held April 24-26, 2020 at Fairmont State University’s Feaster Center.
During the Celebration launch, members of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, several local ministry leaders, Fairmont Mayor Brad Merrifield, and Will Graham spoke. Will Graham is the son of Franklin Graham and the grandson of Billy Graham. Mayor Merrifield presented Graham with the key to the city of Fairmont.
Graham expressed the need for–as his grandfather said–“prayer, prayer, prayer,” leading up to the event. Several activities are scheduled around North Central WV for Pastors, their leadership teams, and their congregations to help build relationships and a follow-up ministry before the Celebration with workshops and prayer gatherings.
“I’m really excited to have the invitation to come here,” Graham said.
“As we started the kickoff now, with the local Pastors and churches here, there is a lot of work to take place. This thing just doesn’t happen overnight.
“I feel like a farmer tilling the ground. It takes time, and it’s not really glorious. It takes a lot of hard work, and that is what the church is going to be involved in. For the next four months, it’s like tilling the soil and building relationships, getting their churches ready, and getting their people looking for lost people. Getting them praying for the lost people and ministering to hurting people, broke people, and then inviting them to come to the event.
“The event is really small in itself, but we are going to spend months and months getting ready for three days. Then after those three days, we’re going to spend months and months and months following up with everybody. So, everybody that makes a decision will be followed up with to make sure they are being discipled into the local church. That is what we are real excited about.
“It’s going to be a lot of work for the local team here, but I am sure they are up to it, and there is a lot of excitement right now.”
