Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.
On December 8th, we had the pleasure of attending the Christmas Concert with renowned Instrumentalist David Wells. Wells is the past Feature Artist for the June-July 2018 issue of Glory Magazine. Victory Assembly of God hosted the free event in Weston, WV.
The red and white Christmas backdrop and decorations were the perfect accompaniment for Wells as he belted out some Christmas classics along with some contemporary Christian and new material, switching back and forth from his trumpet to his flugelhorn. Wells also spoke about his desire to use his gift of music to bring the presence of God, quoting Psalm 23, and how God dwells in the praises of His people.
But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
“Music–worship–is powerful. What a tool we have as believers to fight off the enemy!” Wells stated.
Wells also spoke of his passion for stopping bullying. Wells is the CEO of the Chocolate Jazz Cafe foundation; its goal is to keep music alive in public schools and to help fight against bullying through motivational speaking and performing at schools across the region and nationally. Wells was also bullied while in high school and continues to speak from experience of how to deescalate situations and build esteem. His testimony also led to the creation of the Bully Resistant podcast with David Wells, where he speaks with leaders in education, musicians, government officials, psychologists, counselors, and everyday folks about ways to make the right choices when dealing with bullying. You can read his story here.
Wells, a professional musician with over 25 years of experience, has been playing trumpet and flugelhorn since the age of 9. He has released over 15 CD’s and his newest EP release coming out soon, Lean On Me, features the song “What Child Is This,” and is available to listen to on his website, www.davebond.org.
