Editor’s Letter: Work As Unto The Lord

Read Time:2 Minute

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

Checking Out Is Not An Option

So, have you ‘checked out’ the last few months because of the pandemic? Many have, yet the world keeps spinning. The sun still rises in the east and sets in the west.

It is effortless to use something as significant as a pandemic as an excuse to eat more, sleep more, and work less, whether by your own choice or not. I learned many years ago that the Hebrew language did not have a word for retirement. I always thought that was interesting. One day it dawned on me that if you are always doing the works God asks of you, why would you want to retire? Now, this is not to push a button for all those who are retired; it is to reveal that even after our earthly jobs have ended, Kingdom works are forever.

You see, if you are blessed to have a job, any job, it can be hard to go through the motions of the day if you are working for a paycheck or better yet, unto men. It is easy to compare ourselves to others’ performance, get stuck on what other people think, or allow the drive for more money to fuel a misguided perception of riches. Get up, go to work, go to bed, and do it again tomorrow. In the Kingdom, you sow a seed and reap a harvest. The spirit in which you sow a thing determines the harvest of a thing.

Seek God And Ask Him How You Can Serve

This goes for everyone, even those who are currently unemployed. Seek God and ask Him how you can serve. Ask what He wants you to do for Him today. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you to a job that will provide the means to perform His tasks or ask Him to reveal a talent that He placed within you that can bring about prosperity while you are working or looking for job. His promise is that if you are called to do something, He will provide whatever is necessary, including money. The answer He gives will never align with the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, or the pride of life. It will always align with His Kingdom coming! It may, no, most definitely it will require a sacrifice on your part, but with God, you know your reward is an eternity in Heaven.

Seeking The Treasures Within

Do you need to write that cookbook? Would now be the time to start that bakery? Do you have a million-dollar invention inside you? Ask Him! It truly is a matter of getting in line with God and asking…

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

James 4:2
